Warm Up

Sorry about the lack of pictures as of late. I leave in the dark, return dark, and the weekend weather has not been great. I am in Delta for a couple of weeks and will try to post some from here. Today my wife is playing flute in the Montrose community band and we helped to set up. The entire family is together for the first time in a long while. It should be a good Christmas.

Federal Ango

Each week, another ship pulls up to the Domino Sugar dock to be unloaded. It sometimes takes a week or so to unload the ships I am told, and if you are observant, you can watch the ship rise in the water as they progress in the unloading process.

Choose Wisely

Regardless of where you choose to perch, don't forget to consider the tides!

Another Perch

If sitting on a post is not your thing, here is another place you could try out when selecting your sunrise perch.

Watching The Sun Rise

Picking a good place to watch the sunrise from is important.

Welcome Back!

The sun had taken a break from shining on Baltimore most of this week, but was not shy this morning. I actually ended up walking past my office door to take in the view. What a good way to start a Friday!

Lights

If lights are going up, then the cold weather can not be far behind. Yesterday however, it was almost 70!

Top Of The Mesa

As readers of my previous blog of Delta know, Grand Mesa is the largest flat top mountain in the world. It is covered with lakes, but that is something you don't always see. Well yesterday on my return trip to Baltimore, we flew rather low over the mesa and I was able to capture a shot that will give you a better idea of what the top really looks like.

Hear I Go Again

Time to fly back east again, not to return home till Thanksgiving. I hope that once this election is over, the housing market will come back and I can stop racking up all these frequent flier miles.

Home Seat

I am back home in Delta this weekend and find myself back in my usual seat mixing video for the church. It is good to be home, even if it is only for a few days.

Home No More

I was driving around Edgewood on Sunday, and came across this community of abandoned houses, that I suspect were once military housing. It was rather surreal as the roads were completely open and clean, and the grass had been cut in the recent past. The buildings however had not seen an occupant in a long time.

Golden Shovels

The church I have been attending in MD has outgrown it's current building, and today they had a ground breaking ceremony for a new building. Don't worry, I don't think your donations went to gold plating these shovels.

Home Is Where You Park It

Home for me these days is a bit unusual. Hopefully we can sell out two homes in Colorado and get the family together again! This however is not a bad place to camp.

Sunshine On My Shoulders

It rained all day Saturday, so the sunshine was a welcomed sight Sunday morning.

Color Canyon

Fall is starting to hit the East Coast, and these each day, the color in the "tree canyons" gets better and better!

Another Morning

The sky this morning had a rather silvery look to it that this photo did not really capture, but the sight of that, along with the low rumble of the tug got the day off to a good start.

Note, I do find myself shooting lots of morning shots these days since the days are getting shorter, and I have only been in town every other weekend for the past month. Holpfully I will be able to get out this weekend to get some more variety.

Westway

Considering that this is at a shipping port on the east coast, it seems misnamed.....

Wake up Place

A small cafe gets ready for those who need a boost on this cold morning.

Farmers Market

Every Thursday down on the Inner Harbor at Tide Point, there is a farmers market. Now this is not the sort of farmers market I have seen in Delta, but it looks good none the less. Last week I saw sea food, breads, as well as some farm grown items.

Happy Birthday Tim!

You know, you get more mileage out of generic Happy Birthday signs.... I suppose this was to go out to all the residents around highway 65 that had birthday's last September (when I saw it near Delta), but it also goes out to my son Tim who hits the big 20 today. Happy Birthday Tim!

Morning Tracks

The sun rises to start another day at the ship yard.

Where Is Joe?

One of these people is likely to become president of the USA some time soon. Can you tell which one?

Chicken

My new office is down on the inner harbor SE of downtown Baltimore, and since I was water deprived in Delta, you are likely to see a large number of water type shots as I start my tour of Baltimore. Hope you enjoy them.

I watched these two boats appear to play chicken in the harbor. It turns out that was not the case, but not a bad way to spend lunch!

Winning Drive

I suppose you would need a winning drive to be able to purchase this toy, and even more so to pay for the gas!

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Wrecking Ball

Fortunately there is a lot of water between the ball & the building! Actually this rig is used to load and unload the different ships that are here each day.

Behind The Sign

The smell that comes from behind the Domino Sugar building is rather interesting. Kind of like burn't sugar. Not unpleasant, just different.

Broken Windows

It always strikes me as odd to see buildings that are still being used, but have all sorts of broken windows in them. I don't get it....

Saturday, October 11, 2008

Congratulations Michael

I wonder if he saw the sign as he visited this area last weekend....

Water Taxi

I remember posting a water taxi shot from Echo Lake in September of 07, but it was nothing like this little guy. It is actually free for people in my office, and one of these days I will need to take a lunch boat trip!

Skinny House

All over Baltimore there are these "houses". The primary measurements you care about are width, and stories. I toured one today (not pictured) that was 18 feet wide, had a finished basement, 3 floors above ground, and a roof top patio. I think it had 4 bedrooms, but I kind of got lost. It was actually rather nice, and had a price tag to match, in the "high 500's". The more typical units are around 12 feet wide, and 2-3 stories, but a builder told me that some of the older ones go down to 9 feet wide. Basically if you demolished the home, my motor home would not fit in the resulting space.......

We are trying to decide if we should become city dwellers, or if we should head to the country. Decision pending.....

A Different Sort of Sunrise

I am now camped out in Abingdon MD, and I commute down to the Inner Harbor of Baltimore. One thing I have noticed is that the sun rises over the bay around here. ........This isn't Delta any longer!

Sunrise

Considering where that sun was placed, I was very glad that the morning was overcast as I drove through Nebraska.

Still There

I found myself watching the car in teh rear camera a little more closely. You will also note that more than a few bugs gave up their life on this trip.

Sunday, September 28, 2008

Oops

I started feeling something odd with a tire, and thought I may have a flat, so I stopped. The tires were fine, but I found that my car was implementing en escape plan..........That strap is designed to go over the tire!

The leaves were starting to change as I headed East out of Montrose.

Heading Out

Last Sunday I left Delta for Baltimore. I will be living in the motor home until our home in Delta sells. My wife & the girls will join me then. I hope it sells fast!

Made It

I finally made it to tha Baltimore area, and am setting up shop in a campground. They have wireless, and I brought a desktop machine, and have a USB wireless adapter. When I went to install it, it wanted the disk or Internet. Well, the internet was obviously not up yet, but it seems that I have a driver problem on my CDs, so it could not read the disk.....what to do.....I asked the campground office if I could use their computer to copy files from the CD to an SD card, and was told no......I hope this is not an indicator of things to come. So off to find a public library I went, and sure enough, they had a machine I could use. That copy is going on as I type this. Once I get my machine working, I will begin to post pictures.

Slow Winds

Well, not all winds blow fast, but after a rather interesting month of job hunting, the position in Baltimore has finally come to be a reality. I start tomorrow, and will take our motor home and a car out there next week. You should start seeing posts here over the next week or two.

Change Is In The Wind

Back on 8/5/08, I posted this picture on www.deltadailyphoto.com. At that time, I mentioned I was interviewing for a new position, and today I found out that I will very likely start at that position in the near future. Of course, the first thing I did was setup this blog to chronicle this new adventure! Someone is parking the baltimoredailyphoto.com URL, and the same Blogspot URL, so I have chosen www.bwidailyphoto.com as my new blog home. BWI is the code that represents the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, and since I really don't know where I will end up living, and I have a tendency of bending (Ok erasing) city limits in my travels, BWI seemed logical. I will start posting shots once I begin my travels, and will try to keep you updated on our plans as they firm up.

I will become a "Road Warrior" while we attempt to sell our home in Delta, and will be flying each week. I plan to keep Delta Daily Photo going a long as I am around here to take pictures, so I will maintain 2 blogs for a while, but eventually DDP will fade into history.

Right now, we are working out a start date. As that firms up, I will let you all know.

Head East Young Man!
